Otto Wagner

Otto Wagner is an Austrian architect and urban planner . Also written as Wagner and Wagner. One of the central figures of the Vienna Secession aiming for new modeling. He insisted that "art follows only as necessary " and expressed the idea of modern architecture that emphasizes functionality and rationality. Most of the architectural works are in Vienna.

At that time, many public buildings were built to decorate Ringstraße , and the historicist view of architecture was the mainstream. Wagner's early works are also classicist , including the Federal Bank , Wagner's Bettei , and the City Planning Altives . In 1890, he became the city's city planning adviser, working on a city planning project for Vienna. Since the same year, he has participated in the transportation facilities and Donau maintenance committee of the city of Vienna, and was involved in the planning of the locks of the Donau Canal, the station building of the Vienna Circular Railway, tunnels and bridges. In 1894 he succeeded Hazenauer as a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. In 1897, when the Vienna Secession was formed around the painter Gustav Klimt , Wagner's students Joseph Maria Olbrich and Josef Hoffmann participated. Eventually Wagner himself joined the separatist. The works of this time, such as Majolikahaus and Karlsplatz Station, have a strong tendency toward Art Nouveau, leaving historicism. In 1905, he withdrew from the Secession with Klimt, Olbrich, Hoffmann and others from an internal conflict.
