Survey software
This is a list of sites and software that handle geographic, climate, and statistical data, such as checking site information at the beginning of design issues and downloading map data of surrounding sites. In recent years, issues and competitions have become more and more important in terms of relationships with surrounding sites, historical characteristics, and regional characteristics. In architectural design, the idea of utilizing such a context in the design becomes important.
Therefore, I would like to introduce useful sites and tools that handle terrain and maps from various perspectives as a method for investigating the context of the site.
■ GoogleMap / GoogleEarth
You can know the atmosphere and landscape of the site that are not on the site map, and you can measure the volume height of the existing surrounding buildings. In addition, you can get a rough idea of the traffic volume, how people gather, and how people flow. However, it is not suitable for presentations because the scale cannot be specified and the characters and symbols on the map cannot be hidden.
■ Geospatial Information Authority of Japan basic map information site Windows dedicated software
It is used when you select the site yourself for graduation design and extracurricular activities and obtain a site map. It is a software that can read, display, convert to PNG, and print an accurate map of Japan, but it is complicated to download and requires familiarity with the operation. In addition, there are various tools that can perform more advanced operations based on this basic map information.
■ VectorMapMaker
Software that converts basic map information into vector data so that it can be used in Illustrator and CAD. Up until now, the site map has been traced over time with the illustrator's rectangle tool and live trace tool, but with this software you can create extremely accurate map data with a single blow.
■ Kashmir 3D / Kashibad
Software based on basic map information. It is an excellent mountain software that converts contour line information into 3D data and visualizes the height difference. In addition to the map that expresses the height difference with shadows and colors, there is a Kashibad function that allows you to view the mountains in 3D. The photo is black and white, but you can make it in color, increase the resolution, change the shooting lens, and express it in various ways.

You can save and print the image from the [Information] tab on the upper left of the screen, select the base Japanese map and the aerial photograph to be overlaid on it, and then select [Function] → [Tools] → [Print] on the upper right. Click here for how to use. The access ranking is also open to the public. Plain aerial photographs without any processing are surprisingly easy to use.
