4000000000kg  ---  About the conversion of civil engineering mechanics to architecture  ---

The architecture and the site are always two sides of the same coin, and at the same time, there is no relationship or slogan.
I want architecture to have what is indispensable in that place.
What is the influence that would threaten the life and death of human beings without the architecture?
I wanted to make such an architecture.
And that was the beginning of every day thinking about 4 million tonnes of concrete lumps.
There are a lot of the same and similar things in the world.
The place has power. The situation is powerful.
And I wanted to make something that can only be found there, something that can only be created in that situation.
At present, civil engineering and architecture seem to have a great distance in Japan. Therefore, I wondered if it would be possible to replace the field of civil engineering, which has a strong need, with architecture.
And it came to design the dam. When designing a dam, various unavoidable mechanical problems such as water pressure, mass, and center of gravity emerge. Instead of seeing those dynamics as a problem, they see it as a solution to transform a structure with a civil engineering scale called a dam into architecture, and people are involved from the state where it was only a large concrete block. By creating room to go, we design an architecture with a strong connection that can only be created in that place and in that situation.

Tokyo Machidam Project

Outline of work

There is a huge amount of water in Tokyo, which was once called the city of water. But now the water is invisible to us, such as underground and inside buildings. The large amount of water we use every day is treated and delivered invisible to a distant dam as a water source. The water can only be seen between the faucet and the drain. The rain that falls in Tokyo and the water that is rarely used are drained into the underground sewer without being used. The existence of such invisible water and the water system have various effects on cities such as the decrease in groundwater and the heat island phenomenon.
Through my master's research and production, I have been thinking about a new water cycle in Tokyo. Then, from the conventional water cycle that distributes water from a distance to the entire city through underground water pipes, we derived a water cycle that is completed in a small area by using the water obtained in the city as the water source and exposing the invisible water. ..
This proposal is a proposal for a water utilization model in Tokyo that solves urban problems by planning a green infrastructure "Machidam" that creates a new water cycle and does not rely on distant dams.

Proposal of a complex medical resort for foreigners visiting Japan
――Design of facilities that combine the waterside environment of Lake Hamana and advanced medical care ――

Outline of work

The number of foreigners visiting Japan is increasing rapidly. After surpassing the 10 million level for the first time in 2013, it reached about 1,737,000 at the end of 2015. Meanwhile, "medical tourism" is now attracting attention.

Looking at Japan, it is sold as a package that combines Japanese food, etc., with a focus on medical examinations using its advanced medical technology. As the global market for medical tourism becomes fierce, it is difficult to gain an advantage in price competition for medical expenses with neighboring Asian countries under the Japanese insurance system. Nowadays, there is a need for a medical facility with Japan's unique spatiality, centered on inpatient treatment using advanced medical care that Japan is proud of. In addition, hospitals need to deal with foreign visitors to Japan who are “long-term stays”.

However, in the medical facilities that serve as recipients, delays in training medical interpreters and undeveloped medical treatment environment at the time of admission are regarded as problems. In addition, there are still issues regarding the maintenance of services to provide various services according to the customs and cultures of each country, and how to spend time and space in the hospital so that patients will not get bored. These are due to the fact that many medical facilities are for therapeutic purposes only. In other words, in order to attract medical tourists, it is necessary to have a medical facility with a kind of resort form that can provide total mental refreshment including medical treatment.

Therefore, in this proposal, among foreign visitors to Japan, which is expected to increase in the future, the main target is medical tourists, and "medical care" and "resort" are combined to add space unique to Japan. Propose resort facilities.

Algorithmic Architecture

Algorithm architecture is a design method that uses information processing technology and involves fine discrete processes with fine resolution, and redefines the relationship between nature and humans, and the relationship between nature and act = artificial construction. Nature is an infinite continuum, but when human interpretation is added to it in the process of design, it is inevitably "discretized" into finite elements. An algorithm is also a method for discretizing and understanding nature, but unlike the conventional coarse resolution discretization process up to modern times, it discretizes nature with finer resolution and nature as a continuum. It is an attempt to get as close as possible to itself.
