Urban repairs that retain public and private ambiguity in densely populated areas of wooden houses  Arakawa 4-49, re-downtown plan  ---

Outline of work

In areas with dense wooden houses, the boundaries of the site are ambiguous, such as passing through the land of others and overlapping roofs. It is thought that this ambiguity of the boundary of the site forms the ambiguity of public and private, and creates human relations that are typical of downtown. The purpose of this master's design is to maintain the ambiguity of public and private in urban repairs in densely populated areas of wooden houses where reconstruction is urgently needed for disaster prevention.
With 4-49 Arakawa, Arakawa-ku as the planned site, we focused on the five elements that form the ambiguity of the boundary by creating a block plan and a 1/30 model. The alleys and gaps in the block plan were described and quantified for each element. By selecting 3-chome Hyakunincho, Shinjuku-ku and 6-chome, Seijo, Setagaya-ku as urban / suburban new towns for comparison, and finding a relationship between the numerical values of each residential area and the impression of the city, the ambiguity of the boundary becomes clear. I confirmed that it is closely related to the ambiguity of public and private.

At 4-49 Arakawa, Arakawa-ku, we will carry out urban repairs that make use of the ambiguity of public and private, and by reminding the residents of the goodness of the city, a city that will continue to maintain human relationships like a downtown in a densely populated area of wooden houses. Proposed a plan. This master's design is effective as an urban renewal method in densely populated areas of wooden houses, and can be expected as an evaluation method for existing urban renewal.

Warehouse (Shuchikusoko) ~ Environment that confuses public and private ~

Outline of work

Our modern working style is gradually approaching ourselves due to the development of the Internet and other factors.
Such a future "working and living" scene is not a form that divides the former "work-living separation" work place from the place of life, but works at any time like "public-private confusion" and likes it. Isn't it a life like playing sometimes? In this proposal, we considered an apartment house where the working style changes by creating such a public-private confusion environment. Therefore, we propose an apartment house with a warehouse where various materials (materials, waste materials, goods, food, electricity, etc.) are "collected" in two large warehouses and "built" by local people.
Using such materials, "apartment housing residents", "neighboring residents", "working people", etc. form a union and find a variety of "working places" and "living places" mainly. I drew a proposal for an environment that would positively "confuse the public and private" by building it.

Townscape that becomes a campsite

The vacant house and the tent in the campsite have the same space. Therefore, the apartment house was used as a campsite in the town, and the vacant house was used as a tent in the town.

A large mansion with 30 entrances

The site is Tomigaoka, Nara Prefecture. A proposal to rearrange the relationship between the public place of the town and the private place of your own room in the house. The large mansion will be renovated as an apartment house of 30 units. The unique rooms in the large mansion create a variety of homes, and the corridors serve as a shared infrastructure and skeleton that connects the homes. The skeleton is externalized, and the extension is carried out in the form of hanging from them, and the existing and repaired parts are mixed. The vast garden becomes an approach space for each house, and the walls are dismantled and open to the town. Renovation of relationships creates a family-like living environment where each house is connected to the town and lives under one big roof while becoming the center of the area.

Kenchiku extending down

We attempted a space experiment in which external environmental life, such as finding various functions without being tied to a single function by manipulating in the height direction, could be incorporated into the house. If you can find a function and find your own place, there is room for other things to become a shared space. The private to shared space increases the surface area for the city instead of the floor area. In other words, the scheme of sharing from exclusive use does not mean that it is completed only by the building, but that it spreads to the city as a network of spaces where the external environment is continuous by attracting and collecting fragments of the surrounding environment and relating them to each other. Allows a set of.

1/2

First, let's recapture the meaning of public space.
First, if the number of people sharing a place is x, the place shared by x people can be expressed as "1 / x public space". Then, in the current public space, there are many people who share the place, and the number of 1 / x denominators becomes large. However, for those who share it, there is little awareness that they are sharing the place. In addition, the relationship with each person who shares the place is weak. Here, reduce the number of people who share the 1 / x field. The number of denominators x becomes smaller. Then, this time, the relationship with each person becomes intimate. In other words, the maximum density for building intimate relationships with others is probably "half". By putting a "half" shared space between rooms that you and two people have, you can change your house from your own to a place where you can interact with others. Living in a relationship with others can be said to be urban life.

Living in a town ─ The pleasure of living in a small city / big house ─

Fill a cozy space like a house with the diversity of the city. I thought this was a space that would satisfy the desires of people living in the city. We propose a "living room in the town" to satisfy the coziness of a house, the diversity of the city, and the spatiality of both. "Machi no Living" is a plan to transform the arcade space into an open common space with a public welfare function by living in the upper part of the declining shopping district. The 1st floor will be an open common, and the 3rd floor and above will be renovated to make it an apartment house with private rooms. The second floor will be a closed common "Ie no Living" that can only be used by residents. In this way, two facilities, "Machi no Living" and "Ie no Living," are created under the arcade, and the two spaces breathe into the space of the arcade again. "Machi no Living" is a proposal that stimulates the relationship between the divided city and housing by establishing a trinity of residents of the shopping district, residents of the surrounding area, and the administration.

"Fence ... Breathing with the town"

There are two types of others in the town. One is a passerby, an "other" who does not need to have an active relationship. The other is "others" who should have a positive relationship with their neighbors. The hanging wall blocks the line of sight while standing, and allows the line of sight to pass while sitting. "Waist wall ... Breathing from the outside" ... The boundary with the garden is a glass door, and the waist wall is set back from there. The front of the waist wall is a large veranda-like space that connects to the garden, and the back is a private space that connects to the garden. "Dripping wall ... Breathing between families" ... The space surrounded by the hanging wall becomes an individual space. You can spend your time alone on a chair or bed as a closed space, and if you sit on the floor, you will be connected to the shared space around you. "Waist window ... Breathing with your neighbor" ... Set back the opening on the border with the next house to create a yard and open the waist window. Only Tsuboiwa can be seen from inside the house, and if you sit by the window, you can communicate with your neighbors.

Algorithmic Architecture

Algorithm architecture is a design method that uses information processing technology and involves fine discrete processes with fine resolution, and redefines the relationship between nature and humans, and the relationship between nature and act = artificial construction. Nature is an infinite continuum, but when human interpretation is added to it in the process of design, it is inevitably "discretized" into finite elements. An algorithm is also a method for discretizing and understanding nature, but unlike the conventional coarse resolution discretization process up to modern times, it discretizes nature with finer resolution and nature as a continuum. It is an attempt to get as close as possible to itself.
