Ah and Apa and Mento

Outline of work

Kamoi, located in Tsuzuki-ku, Yokohama, is an interesting area with a mixture of residences, warehouses and factories. We thought that the expected population decline would increase the building stock of warehouses and factories, and by using them, it would turn into an attractive city.

The large space of a warehouse is ideal as an activity base for artists, and incorporates the element of living there. It is like sleeping in a school classroom or corridor while preparing for a school festival.

By making it open to a large number of people, including local residents, you can feel the background of the work, such as the lifestyle and philosophy of the artists who live there. In this way, by performing the entire cycle of thinking, production, and exhibition in one space, you can experience something that cannot be experienced at a museum.

The front yard is a free space that can be used freely, and people who work nearby can eat lunch during lunch break, elementary school students can play after school, and there is a cafe inside so you can have tea. The exterior space between the two buildings will be an imaginary space, a place for artists to relax and get inspiration. In addition, this is a new type of apartment that allows you to enter "inside" as needed, such as only the front yard, only the cafe, and even the space of the artist inside.

Proposal for stock utilization in housing complex type apartments in the face of shrinking society-Case study at Tama New Town Nagayama housing complex 4-chome-

I want you to think of the scenery of the housing complex.
You've probably seen four- to five-story buildings of similar design lined up regularly. Most of them are plate-shaped middle-rise staircase-type dwellings that were mass-produced from the 1950s to the mid-1970s. Now, these housing estates are facing a shrinking society with a declining population, and are suffering from various problems such as an increase in vacant houses, a decline in the area, aging buildings, and obsolescence of functions.
In addition, the standardized middle-rise staircase type dwelling unit has a small dwelling unit area, making it a living space that is difficult for family households to accept even from the current living standards. However, I was fascinated by the diverse and flexible way of living hidden in the uniformity of such standard-designed public apartments, and tried to regenerate it as a good housing stock with the characteristics unique to Japan. ..
Therefore, in this study, we took up Tama New Town Nagayama housing complex 4-chome, confirmed the effectiveness of the method of reduction aimed at shrinking and maturing, and obtained three types of reductions with different scales from the analysis. Make design proposals using the construction method as a case study. One is the continuity of life between the outside and the inside (external space inclusion type), one is from the viewpoint of communication between residents (common part common type), and one is from the comfortable way of living in a family in one dwelling unit (living room). Extended type).
These proposals are not major rehabilitation such as rebuilding or large-scale renovation, but a rehabilitation method that is carried out step by step while inheriting the environment that the housing complex has nurtured for many years.

A town for 100 people and 1000 trees -A study on the landscape with layered interactive activity-

The entry into a declining population has become a reality, and despite the rapid increase in vacant houses in modern cities, the development of huge residential areas is unavoidably continuing. No one can be seen there, and the ethics of capital are clearly visible. In this research, we tried to present an attractive landscape (story) created by overlapping the daily activities of each person from such a sense of discomfort in the landscape.
The target area was Yatsu Agricultural Land, where the city planning for the south exit of Narashino City is underway. This is a miraculous place where the agricultural landscape spreads even though it is close to Tsudanuma Station, and a master plan for residential area development is drawn in this place with attractive scenery rich in micro-topography, and construction is actually underway. In this center, 100 houses and 1000 trees for 100 protagonists and their families are drawn as a story-like landscape. For that purpose, the faces of 100 people were first sketched concretely, and it was envisioned by drawing their lives like a novel.
The design begins with the distribution of 100 lots for the time being, reflecting the terrain, accepting a part of the city planning road, and conferring the site, etc., as if 100 people talk. Each home reflects its individual lifestyle and forms a similar, different, difference and similar network. The landscape that is finally expressed has a nostalgic feeling that it is a public space while being a private place.

Urban collective housing by utilizing stock
-I Apartment Collective Renovation Project-

Outline of work

Collective housing has been attracting attention in recent years as a new way of living, as residents voluntarily form communities. However, it is very difficult to create a common area in a Japanese living environment where the living area is small, because 10-15% of the living area is provided to the common area to make a common area.
Many existing housing stocks have a low housing level compared to the current housing level because the area of one dwelling unit is small and the floor height is low. They are a big problem when renovating an old apartment house and using it as a new house.
In this design proposal, the existing stock will be used as a dwelling unit, a common area will be expanded, and the stock will be used as a collective housing. The problem of collective housing will be solved by allocating the cost that can be reduced by utilizing the skeleton to the construction of common areas. At the same time, the problem of stock of apartments will be solved by expanding common areas with high habitability and raising the standard of housing comprehensively.
In other words, the main purpose of this design proposal is to prove the compatibility between collective housing and the utilization of stock in apartment buildings. Furthermore, the design proposal was made twice, the first design proposal was analyzed from various viewpoints such as structure, regulations, coexistence with the environment, building plan, and business plan, and feedback was given to the second design proposal. Through such a process, the second phase proposal will be a highly realistic proposal as an urban collective housing by utilizing stock.

"From hut to hut"
Proposal of an inn using an unoccupied house in a hut
Editing a housing complex-living in a room and moving from one room to another

Regeneration of housing complex with increased vacant houses. Now, regardless of where you work due to the development of IT and transportation, we will intervene the functions that work in the housing complex and propose a way of living that is not tied to time and place.

+1000 steps of each other

By connecting vacant houses as stock as a walking mechanism, a "town of +1000 steps" is created. People go around the town, create new encounters, and vacant houses are also used as sozai. As the number of vacant houses increases, the walking range expands, and the town becomes more and more enjoyable to walk. And the apartment house becomes the base of this town and the entrance to the town. The shape of an apartment house is like a mountain that promotes walking. By creating a flow line for walking in an apartment house, a new "meeting" by walking is induced.

Fragrance Ceremony Place-Kagubasho-

Today, the city is homogenized due to the increase in high-rise condominiums, and the community is diluted. However, in the old downtown area, the alleys were flooded with things, and the things became part of the building, and the things shared the space and kept a loose sense of distance from the neighboring house, creating an environment full of humanity. By spatializing the passages and stairs in the downtown area, the environment where people help each other and share things at the front door, as a "Kura", people gather around things and the downtown landscape as a community is modernized. I thought that it could be reconstructed.

Vacan-Cycle

Plans to reorganize a networked city with bicycle stalls. The vacant houses and vacant lots that exist in the city will be transformed into the saucer of bicycle stalls, and the city will be activated from a small community created by overlapping various types of stalls. Bicycle stalls are owned by the residents of the apartments, and are stalls that show the characteristics of their owners. Bookshelves full of hobby books become mobile libraries, hobbies such as art are oozing out, and there are people who live in food stalls. By running around the city, they express the intersection of people who normally did not meet, and regain the life-sized bustle of the city.

Tokyo reclamation

Proposal to demolish a part of the vacant house and make it a farmland while inheriting the character of the vacant house. Apartment houses function as the core of the farm-centered community of residents who have cultivated land in vacant houses.

By considering the vacant house as a classroom, the apartment house as a playground for children, and the entire city as a school, a new relationship between the apartment house and the vacant house is constructed.

Villa in newtown

Today, the gateway to a shrinking era, vacant home rates are rising and housing is oversupplied. Especially in the new town created in the 1970s, the increase in the vacant house rate is expected to accelerate. The "completed house", which was built after the war and is an industrial product that is afraid of change, stops time, and eliminates noise, becomes an unoccupied house and begins to spread throughout the city. Therefore, we propose to convert the vacant house in New Town into a privately owned villa. Consider a house that gives an opportunity to change people's line of sight to the city by renovating it while preserving the unique spatiality that includes the noise (plants, insects, rain) of vacant houses and ruins.

My habitat rooted in the city

The space of a city, where many elements gather and an environment where you can gain diverse experiences, is also a place where people from diverse backgrounds gather, leaving the place where they were born. The existence of "I" who came to Tokyo from a rural area in search of an urban environment will create "I of the future" from "I of the past" by placing myself in the city. I thought that the pleasure of living in a city was the joy of finding me who lived in a city and felt growth in the environment. Set up a shopping street as a place to look for me. The shopping district is a commercial form that has developed as the center of the local community. However, due to changes in lifestyle, it has changed to vacant stores and shutter streets, and many shopping streets are quiet. Therefore, we propose to change from a shopping district as a commercial form to a residential district as a residential form and find new value. I will spread me to the city as a form of pleasure that connects me and the city, and realize the pleasure of living in the city with many people.

Spin the breath

Think about the rich relationships between people and cities and people that are born because of degeneracy. The vacant house will be reduced and the first floor will be opened to the city, and the second floor will be used for rent for singles and young couples. In addition, vacant houses will be newly connected by a wall. The walls connect small houses to increase horizontal strength and provide seismic retrofitting, while at the same time creating a new area at the ground level that is not constrained by the plane of each dwelling unit. Due to the reduction, it will be possible to open an opening or add a veranda to the originally back surface of the surrounding dwelling units, and the relationship between the surrounding dwelling units will naturally be born.

Deep surface layer

Proposal for renewal of local cities that will become shutter towns and distribution of old lumber. A new old lumber bank that sells and manufactures old lumber will be planned in a corner of Shutter Street in Gifu City, Gifu Prefecture to improve the renewal of the city. The old lumber bank will be a base for promoting the reconstruction of the city by purchasing the fittings and timber produced by the reduction and renovation of the building, standardizing and distributing new lumber. In addition, by reducing a part of the buildings lined up along the road, the previously hidden expression of the adjacent building will be revealed. Furthermore, by utilizing vacant rooms and vacant stores, a deep surface layer is created from the accumulation of various facial expressions, creating a new road space. Freeing architecture from the road remains a sustainable urban structure over time.

Unraveling housing complex ─ Life in the city spreading from the housing complex ─

Consider a new relationship between work and housing in a housing complex that is a homogeneous series of housing and is expected to reuse stock. By straddling the units of the house, the job unravels the house and contributes not only to the residents but also to the lives of the local residents. The site is Maebashi, a local city. In the current housing complex, life is completed for each dwelling unit, creating a homogeneous look of the housing complex. Therefore, the balconies at the end will be connected and opened as a public shared flow line. In addition, programs for various jobs will be intervened in a way that straddles the conventional dwelling unit units, and stairs and landings that function as flow lines on the upper and lower floors will be added to the balcony. It is also used as a work space, creating a variety of depths and liveliness.

The 11th Haseko Housing Design Competition
Apartment house connected to an unoccupied house

Overview

When apartment houses are built, it is becoming more common to see vacant houses around them. In addition, vacant houses may occur in old apartments. Such development and degeneracy are occurring in a mottled manner in modern cities *. I think this kind of situation can actually be used positively when thinking about housing and communities. By utilizing vacant houses, it may be possible to ooze the activities of apartment houses into the city, or by rearranging vacant houses, it may be possible to update the way apartment houses themselves should be. For example, there are some cases where the space of an unoccupied house is used for nursing care and child-rearing. In that case, at the same time, it is possible that the housing complex will become the engine of the community and the utilization of vacant houses will be promoted. What is born in this situation is a relationship that involves others, which is different from the development on the premises so far. The premise that apartments are part of a city or nature may also be considered there. The challenge is an apartment house with 30 units (floor area ratio 150%) built in places where vacant houses are scattered around the surrounding residential area. Applicants should set vacant houses as appropriate and design them together with apartment houses. I look forward to new proposals that connect apartments and vacant houses.

Algorithmic Architecture

Algorithm architecture is a design method that uses information processing technology and involves fine discrete processes with fine resolution, and redefines the relationship between nature and humans, and the relationship between nature and act = artificial construction. Nature is an infinite continuum, but when human interpretation is added to it in the process of design, it is inevitably "discretized" into finite elements. An algorithm is also a method for discretizing and understanding nature, but unlike the conventional coarse resolution discretization process up to modern times, it discretizes nature with finer resolution and nature as a continuum. It is an attempt to get as close as possible to itself.
