connect  --Former Outdoor Activity Center Renovation Plan -

Outline of work

We made a plan to regenerate an unoccupied house in Zushi City Park, Roka Memorial Park. The master's design was done in Zushi City because he wanted to bring young people and liveliness to Zushi City, which used to be lively in the villa area.
While investigating Zushi City, I came across a building called the "Former Outdoor Activity Center" that is not currently in use. This building is built in the city park, Roka Memorial Park. Originally used as an employee dormitory, it was used as an accommodation facility for citizens after being handed over to the city free of charge. However, it has become unusable due to aging and other reasons.
Rohhana Memorial Park is surrounded by many trees and you can feel the nature. When I walked, the view of the sea spread out. When I was walking here, there were some places where I could feel this kind of scenery. I felt that this was the place where I could feel the nature of Zushi most.
Therefore, I provided a place where citizens and people who visited Zushi could interact while touching the characteristic nature of Zushi, and I remember the time when it was crowded with children and young people as before. While reviving it, I wanted to create a place where the bustle would spread from there. In order to make a place where you can remember the old memories of Zushi and a place where you can feel the nature of Zushi at the same time, while leaving an important part to revive the memory, the former outdoor activity center Renovated.

Nagaya plan in Taiwan
--Renovation and new construction of a Nagaya without a courtyard in Pingtung City -

Outline of work

One of the traditional forms of housing in Taiwan is the Nagaya in a commercial area. The frontage of a basic Nagaya is around 5m, and in a Nagaya with a depth of more than 50m, there are one or two courtyards for daylighting and ventilation. However, there are many small houses with a depth of about 20m, which do not have a courtyard and have a poor living environment. The courtyard is an important environmental space element for Nagaya. Therefore, we investigated the size and spatial composition of Nagaya and courtyards around the world and used them as materials for design proposals.

The planned site was selected as the Nagaya district in Pingtung City, Southern Taiwan. This research plan consists of two plans, renovation and new construction. The existing two-family, one-building style Nagaya with a depth of about 14m was renovated into a cafe and gallery run by the resident, and expanded to match the depth of the adjacent Nagaya. Two other Nagaya buildings adjacent to this Nagaya were newly built in restaurants, student housing, cooking classes, gardening classes, wedding dress studios, and dentistry. By creating a courtyard, we planned a complex building that would make the small-scale Nagaya more livable and comfortable to live in. It is a proposal for new commerce, housing, and the possibility of space in the townscape, while taking advantage of the characteristics of Nagaya, which is a traditional landscape of Taiwan.

Re window-  Proposal for renovation of opening structure in wooden detached houses

In recent years, the orientation toward a stock-type society has increased, and as used properties are being reused, attention is focused on the utilization of housing stock such as renovation conversion, but the parts that are mainly renovated are changes in equipment and floor plans. And so on. It may be possible to improve the quality of the living environment by capturing and repairing the opening that stands between the outside and the inside of the building.
Therefore, in this study, we focused on the possibility of renovating the opening structure, considering that the opening structure is an important factor to be reviewed as well as the equipment and floor plan, along with the changing needs of residents and the change in the relationship with the area. We propose three case studies in suburban residential areas.
We conducted a literature survey and a fact-finding survey on the renovation cases of wooden detached houses, and clarified the relationship between the patterns of the five opening configurations and the surrounding environment and activities from the results of the discussion. Using this extracted pattern and its characteristics, we will renovate and design a concrete opening configuration based on the actual occupants and the site.
By reconsidering a detached house from the opening structure, the behavior not only in the interior space but also at the boundary becomes active, and it becomes easier to create a connection with the outside. In addition, by connecting such dwellings, a rich outdoor space will continue, and a sense of unity in the area will be fostered from the town. We propose a living space that is not complete inside the house.

Editing a housing complex-living in a room and moving from one room to another

Regeneration of housing complex with increased vacant houses. Now, regardless of where you work due to the development of IT and transportation, we will intervene the functions that work in the housing complex and propose a way of living that is not tied to time and place.

30 landlords and 3000 tourists

Proposal for renovation of buildings in Dotonbori, a tourist destination in Osaka. Dotonbori is a tourist attraction that exists in Osaka, but it is not a tourist destination that Osaka is proud of. This is because there is no life for Osakans there. Dotonbori's commercial facilities are not a place of living. This can be seen from the fact that there are no accommodation facilities around the planned area. Even though tourists come to Osaka for sightseeing, they are satisfied with seeing "things that are unique to Osaka" and return home. It was not satisfied with "Osaka". The humanity and amiability that Osakans really value is not born in such a space. To enjoy Osaka means to live in Osaka. We propose a place where you can enjoy life in Osaka and create your own life in Osaka.

custom-ism unfinished housing complex

It was decided to rebuild the Suwa housing complex in Tama New Town all at once. The plan is conscious of a compact city where high-rise condominiums are lined up near the station. However, if such developments occur in the suburbs of Tokyo, a homogeneous city with less cultural and historical characteristics will spread. A bright future cannot be drawn in the suburban cities that are packaged. As a new future image of the housing complex, we propose a customizable dwelling unit that uses seismic reinforcement. The seismic retrofit frame connects the residential building and the courtyard and encourages activities in the courtyard. Furthermore, by adopting a system that allows the frame to be remodeled according to the tastes of the residents, such as internalization, externalization, and flow lines, it has become possible to expand and contract dwelling units according to lifestyle and family structure.

A large mansion with 30 entrances

The site is Tomigaoka, Nara Prefecture. A proposal to rearrange the relationship between the public place of the town and the private place of your own room in the house. The large mansion will be renovated as an apartment house of 30 units. The unique rooms in the large mansion create a variety of homes, and the corridors serve as a shared infrastructure and skeleton that connects the homes. The skeleton is externalized, and the extension is carried out in the form of hanging from them, and the existing and repaired parts are mixed. The vast garden becomes an approach space for each house, and the walls are dismantled and open to the town. Renovation of relationships creates a family-like living environment where each house is connected to the town and lives under one big roof while becoming the center of the area.

Wild houses

This is a town renovation plan in a densely populated area of wooden houses. Instead of creating a renovated apartment, we propose to read the environment where the volume of the house is lined up like the terrain in order to create a space where you can enjoy the diversity while keeping the existing cityscape. The complete element of "family = housing = nLDK" will be dismantled, and the conventional way of the outer wall, which has strengthened the disconnection with the surroundings, will be changed from closed to open. As a result, the relationship between the broken buildings is gradually changed, and the deep sense of distance is reconstructed by the residents. It is a proposal to "live in the city itself" beyond the framework of housing.

The 6th Haseko Housing Design Competition
Renovation of familiar places

Overview

Keep using architecture for a long time. Continue to live there again. It also keeps thinking about the environment of the place. Even with a view to modern issues such as the declining birthrate, aging population, and the global environment, it is necessary to consider not only new construction but also stock. Therefore, imagine a familiar place with a connection to each person, and propose 30 apartments while renovating and expanding. New proposals may spread around, renovate the city, and create value for the future. The value of building stock is not limited to historic buildings. Imagine the site or building as a place that you feel familiar with, such as your parents' house, grandparents' house, or a familiar place. However, the site is limited to Japan. Also, please include the location profile in your suggestions. I look forward to the proposal of new apartments that will lead to the future.

Algorithmic Architecture

Algorithm architecture is a design method that uses information processing technology and involves fine discrete processes with fine resolution, and redefines the relationship between nature and humans, and the relationship between nature and act = artificial construction. Nature is an infinite continuum, but when human interpretation is added to it in the process of design, it is inevitably "discretized" into finite elements. An algorithm is also a method for discretizing and understanding nature, but unlike the conventional coarse resolution discretization process up to modern times, it discretizes nature with finer resolution and nature as a continuum. It is an attempt to get as close as possible to itself.
